About the Campaign

What you can expect:

Last year, local leaders participated in the inaugural Heads Without Beds: Leaders Edition. This year, we’re inviting you, along with other executives and community leaders to participate in our second annual Heads Without Beds: Leaders Edition.

You can join other community leaders in Heads Without Beds: Leaders Edition to make a difference in the lives of our region’s most vulnerable. By sleeping without your bed for just one night and finding sponsors to support your efforts, you’re helping to ensure others in our region won’t have to do without. Because every head deserves a bed.

About the Cause

Home Again Furniture Bank is a nonprofit aiming to end furniture poverty right here on the Northeast Avalon. We collect and redistribute gently-used furniture to families and individuals of all ages, backgrounds and circumstances who are referred. As the sole furniture bank in the region, Home Again has 35+ frontline partner agencies and organizations who rely on our service to meet their clients’ furniture needs.

In fewer than eight years, Home Again has furnished 2800+ homes with essential furnishings. For Tina, this meant an end to her kids sleeping at their aunties and grandparents homes – it meant a family reunited. “Life is so much better. I have a comfortable, safe home… The furniture helped us, not just with comfort, but it gave my children a place of belonging and took a lot of stress and worry off of my plate.”

FAQ

FAQ - General

Participants in Heads Without Beds: Leaders Edition have strong professional networks and/or are notable public figures and want to be part of an influential community united to help end furniture poverty in the Northeast Avalon region.

Participants are expected to reach out to their networks to share campaign information and request support for their one night without a bed. All participants will gather for the sleepout event.

On event night, participants will gather at a mystery location for an evening without the comfort of a bed. While participants can expect minimal comfort, safety and well-being remains a priority.

On event night, participants will learn more about Home Again’s essential work and the people whose lives have been impacted.

Food and drinks will be provided.

Be sure to pack your favorite pj pants, Home Again T-shirt, sleeping bag and pillow. It’s also recommended that you bring along necessary medications, toiletries, ear plugs (!) and other personal items.

Smartphones are also encouraged for sharing event posts on your social media platforms and continuing your outreach throughout the evening.

If unforeseen circumstances prevent you from joining in-person, it’s encouraged to participate as soon as possible from your own home. We’d love for you to share pictures of your sleeping quarters!

A pre-recorded impact video will be shared and a Heads Without Beds team member will check in, virtually, to see how your night is going.

If the pandemic prevents an in-person gathering, participants will be expected to sleep without their bed while in their own home. Home Again will have a brief, virtual gathering planned in the case of pandemic restrictions.

As a respected community leader with an extensive network of professionals, your support will help raise much needed awareness, and funds, to ensure more of our neighbours receive a bed to sleep in and a table to share a meal around.

FAQ - Fundraising

A group of 15 participants are challenged to collectively raise $150,000 in critical funds and to increase awareness of Home Again Furniture Bank and its essential work. While not all participants will raise exactly $10,000 the goal is to collectively and supportively raise the needed funds.

Participants will be recognized on our website and social media.

First of all, remember the Home Again team is here to support participants throughout the campaign. Reach out anytime! You can expect a Home Again team member to check in by phone at least once during your campaign.

You will receive weekly communications with copy-and-paste content for email and social media messages, a very helpful fundraising tips document and have access to Home Again staff to answer any questions you might have.

Some of our more seasoned “heads” have offered to share their expertise and make joint requests. Keep an eye on your email if this appeals to you!

The best way to make donations is online. However, cash, cheques, and direct deposits are also accepted.

You’ll have your own online fundraising page where your supporters can donate. The online system makes collecting donations easy, receipts instantaneous, goal tracking automatic, and minimizes administration costs for Home Again.

Donors can also donate directly to the event if there isn’t a participant they wish to donate to.

Cash or cheque donations can be sent to:
Home Again Furniture Bank
22 Church Hill
St. John’s, NL A1C 3Z9

Cheques should be made payable to Home Again Furniture Bank and include a note with the name of the Heads Without Beds: Leaders Edition participant.

If you receive cash or a cheque donation, please mail the donation to Home Again Furniture Bank, 22 Church Hill, A1C 3Z9  or contact the Heads Without Beds: Leaders Edition Team for assistance in processing the donation.

A receipt will only be issued once funds have been received by Home Again.

Yes! Your company can donate in the same ways any donor does. Matching fund gifts are also possible.

By providing matching funds, donors help our participants reach their fundraising goals, directly supporting the delivery of beds, sofas and other essential furniture to individuals and families throughout our region.

Matching Fund Challenges provide a special opportunity for the participants’ friends, family, colleagues and employers to give and make an even bigger impact for those living in furniture poverty.

If you, or your company, would like to provide matching funds, please contact Maureen Lymburner for more information.

All donors will receive a charitable tax-receipt. Online donations will receive an automatically generated tax-receipt by email. Mailed donations will receive tax receipts by mail within 3-4 weeks of receipt by Home Again.
